У 1963 році Всесвіт Marvel отримав новий вимір. Після успіху «Фантастичної четвірки» (1961) на сторінках коміксів з’явилися нові герої: Людина-павук, Людина-мураха, Доктор Стрендж, Халк, Залізна Людина та Тор. In the dawn of 1963, the Marvel cosmos stirred. From the spark ignited by the Fantastic Four in 1961, a constellation of heroes began to shine: the nimble Spider-Man, the ingenious Ant-Man, the enigmatic Doctor Strange, the mighty Thor, the indomitable Hulk, and the armored Iron Man. Yet amid this brilliance, Stan Lee felt an absence — a yearning for unity. “What if,” he mused, “these solitary champions stood together?”
Thus, with Jack Kirby’s hand guiding the vision, the Avengers were born. They were not bound by blood like the Fantastic Four, but by necessity — colleagues thrust into alliance. Discord simmered; Hulk clashed with friend and foe alike. Still, when united, they toppled gods and conquerors: Loki’s trickery, Kang’s tyranny, the Masters of Evil, and threats thought eternal.
The tale unfolded with constant change. Hulk departed, Captain America rose to lead. Ant-Man grew into Giant-Man, while former adversaries — Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch — crossed the threshold from villainy to valor. The founders faded, leaving new guardians to carry the banner of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
TASCHEN’s monumental XXL edition preserves these first twenty chronicles of the Avengers. Larger than Hulk’s fist, heavier than Thor’s hammer, and gleaming with treasures beyond Iron Man’s armor, it is a tome worthy of Stark’s library. Each page, restored with care, breathes again as though freshly pressed in the golden age of the 1960s.
The collection is graced with a foreword by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and enriched by Eisner Award–winner Kurt Busiek’s sweeping history, adorned with rare art, photographs, and hidden documents.
